Coram Fields Feasibility Study

client: Coram Fields Management Committee
location: Bloomsbury, London
date: 2013

category: feasibility study/masterplanning

Shortlisted submission for a commission to develop a master plan for Coram’s Fields.
Coram’s Fields is vital park, playground and community resource for children, young people and families of Central London. It includes a Youth Centre, Children’s Centre, Community Nursery, Sports Programme, a city farm and cafe.
The main aspects of the brief were to build on the park’s existing landscape heritage in a way that is appropriate for the 21st century, to enhance the open and green space of Coram’s fields whilst providing new and improved, fully inclusive amenities – to create a modern functioning ‘haven for play’ which respects the historic setting.

LLA in collaboration with Churchman Landscape Architects proposed a joint approach to buildings and landscape informed through developing an in-depth understanding of the social, heritage as well as the physical context with the aim to maximise opportunity for play across the site as a whole. The approach would inform the development of a range of different environments within and types of landscape to support a diverse range of play.
